Omaheke Prioritises Roads for Upgrading

The Roads Authority in conjunction with consultants Bicon/Pregon/Dunamis joint venture met with stakeholders in Omaheke region on 21 July 2025 to identify and evaluate roads and related infrastructure to support social and economic development in the region.

The purpose of the workshop was to validate the region’s roads master plan, following a stakeholder’s consultation workshop in August 2024 during which road infrastructure needs in the region were identified.

The region has, thus, prioritised the completion of the ongoing road projects being upgraded to low volume seal (LVS), namely:

  • Trans-Kalahari Highway-Tallismanus Road
  • Farm du Plessis-Epukiro Post 3 Road
  • Gobabis-Leonardville Road
  • Aminuis-Tsjaka Road

The region further prioritised the rehabilitation of Gobabis Spar-Weighbridge Road as well as the upgrading of the following new roads to LVS during the next five to ten years:

  • Epukiro Post 3-Eiseb Road
  • Otjinene-Eiseb/Gam Road
  • Aminuis-Corridor 13 Road
  • Dordabis-Leonardville Road
  • Tallismanus-Donkerbos Road
  • Epukiro Post 3-Drimiopsis Road
  • Leonardville-Aranos Road
  • Omitara-Otjinene Road
  • Buitepos-Vergenoeg Road
  • Onderombapa-Corridor 13 Road

The Roads Authority and the consultants will determine the funding requirements for the identified projects in accordance with the national road sector operational procedures and capacity.

A five- to ten-year implementation plan will then be developed into a regional masterplan, which forms part of the national medium-to-long-term road masterplan. This masterplan will be incorporated in the national development plans.

Chief Regional Officer, Pecka Semba, acknowledged the efforts of the Roads Authority and the Namibian Government in improving the country’s road infrastructure. He further appealed to the Roads Authority to implement the region’s masterplan in order to continue with this venture.
